Rev Fr. Saturlino Lohure Hilangi
Father Saturlino Ohure, was a catholic priest and politician, born in the village of Oronyo, north of Torit in the South of Sudan. Father Ohure, led the 1955 Torit Mutiny, which became famously known as Anyanya 1 rebellion.This rebellion marked the beginning of the fight for freedom in the south of Sudan by South Sudanese.He was killed by enemies of south Sudan and burried unceremoniously in northern Uganda ( 1967) in leading to upto the Addis Ababa agreement of 1972 .This January 2009, his body was exhumed from north of Uganda and reburried in Torit amidst celebrations from from all people of Equatoria and south Sudan!
We the people of Otuho and South Sudan living in Australia, are proud of Fr Ohure and aim to emulate him in being leaders of tomorrow. It is with this deep respect for Fr Saturlino Ohure that we shall be holding a commemoration and fundraising day on the 4th of July 2009. Funds will be used to improve the lives of people of Torit and south Sudan.
